Is there a 4-H Handbook for New Families?  Yes!  The UC 4-H offers a guide designed to help families in UC 4-H have a positive experience.  You may access that by clicking here!
Is there a 4-H Uniform/What are "whites"?  The term "whites" is in reference to the white pants and shirts typically worn with the 4-H uniform.
The official 4-H uniform consists of the following:
1)  Green uniform 4-H hat branded with the University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) and the 4-H clover logo mark.  California is the only state to have a 4-H uniform hat.  Many members display their achievement pins on their hats.
2)  A plain white shirt with a collar. Any length of sleeve, including sleeveless is acceptable.
3)  Members have a choice of bottoms, appropriate to the event or activity, as specified in the California 4-H Dress Guidelines.
4)  Optional: A traditional 4-H tie or scarf worn with the collared white shirt. The tie and scarf are both worn under the collar. Any member can wear either the scarf or the tie--whatever the member is most comfortable wearing.
5)  Alternate Casual Uniform: For casual events, members may wear their club or county 4-H branded shirt without the uniform hat. Club and county 4-H shirts must properly display the 4-H emblem according to the California 4-H Branding Toolkit.

A uniform is not required for participation in any 4-H sponsored activity, event, meeting or occasion.  The CDFA Fairs and Exposition Rule Book and the 4-H Youth Development Program do not mandate a uniform or attire for judging.  However, fairs do not fall under the jurisdiction of the 4-H program and may require their own clothing for showing. Please check with your local fair for specific details.

Two Rock 4-H typically has donated whites (pants and shirts), as well as hats, scarves & ties available to the club.  Parent volunteers have them available throughout the club year for anyone who may need them.  However, families are welcome to purchase their own whites at local retail locations.  4-H hats, scarfs and ties may be purchased from:  Leslie Carman 4-H Club Supplies:  (888) 466-9433 or (805) 462-9433 www.4hsupplies.com
When Do Project Meetings Begin?  Project meetings typically begin in between the November - February months.  Most project meetings last 1 to 2 hours per meeting.  Project leaders must instruct for a minimum of 6 hours in a club year, and members must also participate in a minimum of 6 hours of instruction to qualify to show at fairs, as well as, to be able to include the project in their record book.  It is up to each individual project leader to work with members to determine project meeting days/times.  Please reach out to the project leader(s) directly to inquire about your specific meetings.  Please visit the Club Project page for more info.
How Do I Start a 4-H Afterschool Club ?  The 4-H Youth Development Program has developed "In-Motion" Afterschool Clubs.
The clubs are combination of 4-H's values and flexible project meeting times in schools.  Through partnerships with schools, community organizations and colleges, the program provides nearly 300 youth with educational after school activities through hands-on activities and fun sports programs.
The 4-H program is always looking for more volunteers and parents who would like to start afterschool programs in more schools.
If you are interested in creating afterschool programs in your school, please contact Diego Mariscal 4-H Outreach Coordinator , or call the 4-H County office at 707-565-2681, and they will be happy to provide you with all the details to start a club!

What is an All Star 4-H Ambassador?  Sponsored by each county 4-H office and/or county 4-H leaders' council, all counties in California have an All Star 4-H Ambassador program for older youth. All Star 4-H Ambassadors are liaisons between the county 4-H office, 4-H members and volunteers, and the public. All Star 4-H Ambassadors visit 4-H clubs in their county; network with other organizations within the community; and represent their county at the annual 4-H State Leadership Conference. All Star 4-H Ambassadors are role models for their fellow 4-H members, their county, and their community!  The All Star 4-H Ambassador rank not only recognizes a member's leadership abilities, but it is also a working honor. The best and brightest 4-H'ers are selected to represent their county as All Star 4-H Ambassadors.  This esteemed position keeps older members involved by providing them with leadership development through goals to strive for as they serve as leader role models for younger members. All of these factors add up to a leadership experience unique to the 4-H Youth Development Program!
